Photography Class. Basic DSLR.

So I've started a class beginning of this month at our local photography school just down the street from where I live.  I've always had a love for photography and am in constant awe for those who have the amazing talents.  Loving photographers such as Ansel Adams and Anne Geddes I've always wondered how I could take pictures like them.  With already 2 classes under my belt, I feel like I've learned so much! Aperture.  Shutter speed.  White balance.  Exposure.  I feel like I walk away with some much after every class!

Here comes October!

I can't believe it's already nearing the end of September.  I am treading above all the piles of work and homework I've had to deal since September began.  Oh boy has it kicked me in the arse one too many times in the mere few weeks I have been at it.  My other oasis, next to just sitting on the couch with my family watching some good old television, is going through all my pictures.

I've finally decided to take some time to sort through some of my pictures in attempt to put them in categories.  These are just pictures taken with my Canon SX120 IS but I thought I'd display my amateur shots I'm most proud of.

Check it out... the link is on the sidebar to the right... Enjoy!

Gotta LOVE these shoes!

the best medicine

I sit here on my couch with a terrible cold, "piles of tissues in my garbage in a matter of minutes" kinda sick, and my laptop at hand browsing through my pictures. I actually believe I feel better when I go through some of my favourites. It's something about reminiscing about the time it was taken and how I was able to capture that moment. The whole experience provides that sense of relaxation and peace that helps you rest enough to recover from such a nasty virus. Sounds kinda cheesy but great memories make the best medicine!

lenses, tripods, and backdrops... oh my!

I met up with an old friend at the photography store today for lunch and some "shop talk". The photography store was great. Seeing all those cameras... all those lenses... all those backdrops... I thought about all the photo shoot possibilities... so exciting! The camera I am now eyeing is the Canon 7D but with that price I will be eye-ing it for a while. I am now trying to figure out the best Canon DSLR camera I can start with that won't break the bank. That's going to be tough!

We also discussed courses available in Vancouver. It's amazing how much is out there. There is even a photography studio right by my house that offers great core courses that teaches you about the different functions on your SLR like shutter speed, aperture, and lighting, functions that I've tried using on my point-and-shoot through trial and error. So far, trial and error has worked for me but it would be great to actually know what I'm doing =)

In my own backyard

I've always loved taking pictures. I've been told that I see life out of a viewfinder too much but I love how pictures are timeless keepsakes of that moment whether it be a birthday party, a wedding, or just a gathering of friends.

I finally received my new camera. A simple point-and-shoot: Canon SX120 IS. My Canon has been good to me so far. I hope to refresh my knowledge of the manual functions on the camera and eventually upgrade to a DSLR one day.

One of my favourite photo subjects is my own home. The house... the pets... my own backyard... they all give me great photo opportunities where I can practice with lighting and composition.
